Childbirth Preparation Classes

We offer a three-part class program and various support groups designed to help expectant families prepare for childbirth. You do not have to be a patient to participate in our classes.

  • Class 1: Pregnancy, Stages of Labor, Pushing and Low Intervention Birth and Comfort Techniques
  • Class 2: Pain Medication Management, Inductions, 2nd Stage Interventions, Cesarean Sections
  • Class 3: Postpartum, Newborn Care, Breastfeeding/Bottle Feeding, Infant CPR
  • Breastfeeding Support Groups

Childbirth Education -- Class 1

Pregnancy, Stages of Labor, Pushing and Low Intervention Birth and Comfort Techniques

The first two classes cover the anatomy of pregnancy, stages of labor, vaginal delivery, hospital procedures and medications, cesarean sections, and comfort measures. They are taught by the OB Outreach Nurse and additional Labor and Delivery Nurses.

Location: UF Health Flagler Hospital, 400 Health Park Blvd., St. Augustine, in the Osceola Conference Room on the first floor near the cafeteria

When: First Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Childbirth Education -- Class 3

Postpartum, Newborn Care, Breastfeeding/Bottle Feeding, Infant CPR

The third class discusses postpartum care, tips and tricks, newborn care and medical interventions at the hospital, hands-on practice of changing a diaper, swaddling, holding a newborn, infant CPR, and how to give a bath. One of our IBCLCs attends the class and talks to parents about breastfeeding and bottle feeding.

Location: UF Health Flagler Hospital, 400 Health Park Blvd., St. Augustine in Room 400

When: Third Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Breastfeeding Support Groups

Note: Support group meetings will not be held if the dates fall on a holiday.

When: Every Monday, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm.

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class via Zoom

This class is facilitated by one of our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants. It covers anatomy, how breastfeeding works, the best way to start, and proven strategies to help you be successful with breastfeeding.

These classes are offered by request. Please email lactationservices@smcun.com and enter "Zoom Breastfeeding Class" in the subject line to schedule.
